(Cincinnati)--A public memorial service was held at the Cincinnati Museum Center Sunday Morning, for former Ohio lawmaker William L. Mallory.

Mallory Sr., was Ohio's first black House majority leader and the state’s longest-serving in history spending 28 years in the statehouse from 1966 to 1994. He is survived by his wife Fannie, and six grown children, who include former Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory and Hamilton County judges William Jr. and Dwane Mallory. 

More than 600 pieces of legislation were sponsored or co-sponsored by Mallory Sr., including the creation of the first statewide drug prevention program and the financing of Riverfront Stadium and Fountain Square.

Mallory, Sr., was born in 1931 He died on Dec. 10, 2013 after a brief illness at the age of 82, his funeral and burial will be private.
