(Tri-State) -- The National Weather Service has replaced a Winter Storm Watch with a Winter Storm Warning, effective early Sunday morning, and lasting until Monday afternoon.
The forecast is for rain late Saturday night, turning into freezing rain, mixing with sleet and light snow, early Sunday morning. Heavier snow is expected to start before Sunday evening. Meteorologists say most places in the area can expect five to eight inches of snow, and a tenth of an inch of ice.
According to the National Weather Service office in Wilmington, Ohio, "Significant amounts of snow and sleet, along with a layer of ice will result in hazardous roads and reduced visibilities. Travel Saturday night into Monday will be impacted".
The City of Cincinnati started pre-treating roads with salt and salt brine on Wednesday, but the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet decided to wait, so salt wouldn't be washed away by rain. Indiana Department of Transportation says they believe they have enough salt to treat state highways and the Interstate system.
